Comparison and Analysis of Three Molding Structures: W, FF, FFX
June 30,2025

In the design of the cold bending forming machine, different structural methods result in differences in the equipment's debugging efficiency, automation level and investment cost. Currently, the three common forming methods in the industry are W-type, FF-type and FFX-type.

1.W-shaped structure (W type forming)
Principle: The rollers are arranged in a "W" shape. The spacing between the rollers can be manually adjusted by either manual or mechanical means to switch the specifications.
Features:
Traditional structure, simple design concept;
Dependent on manual adjustment, low efficiency;
Long changeover time, greatly influenced by manual experience.
Application: Entry-level / low-cost solution.
Application scenarios: Suitable for single specification or small batch production, for customers with low requirements for changeover efficiency.

2. FF Type Structure (Fast Forming / Rapid Changeover)
Principle: Through hydraulic, electric screw rod, etc. drive, the roller seat is moved horizontally as a whole, achieving rapid specification change.
Features:
Electric/hydraulic operation, adjustment can be completed by pressing a button;
Changeover time is significantly shorter than that of W type;
The structure is more compact, with moderate cost.
Application: Mid-range market solution.
Application scenarios: Suitable for customers with multiple specification changes and medium efficiency requirements.

3. FFX Structure (Flexible Forming / Fully Flexible Changeover)
Principle: Fully automatic CNC changeover, with precise control of roller positions by the PLC system. Just input the plate shape parameters and the system can automatically complete the adjustment.
Features:
True fully automatic changeover, usually taking only 1–2 minutes;
High precision, with almost no need for manual intervention;
The highest investment cost, and higher requirements for electrical control and maintenance skills.
Positioning: High-end/Intelligent solution.
Application scenarios: Suitable for customers with high efficiency, frequent changes, and multiple product types, especially in markets with high precision requirements (such as Europe).
